SCHOOLCHILDREN OUTSIDE STANTHORPE STATE SCHOOL, WILLIAM BOAG, 1873

Description: William Boag arrived in Queensland from Sydney in 1871 and travelled throughout the south east Queensland region. In 1872 he travelled to Stanthorpe region where he took this photograph of Stanthorpe State School. He spent several months in the region, capturing the tin mining boom and documenting daily life. The growing community was self-reliant, creating buildings using simple, available materials.
