Kus Koláče

Taste of Prague tips

Kus Koláče

Description: The best kolache place in town, without a doubt. "We don't pretend this is healthy," explains Nika, the bakery's founder, the key to its success. And successful it is, with Saturday lines that stretch along the block, and the exact times when new batches of kolache come out of the oven published on their social media. If you know NYC, this is Prague's version of Levain bakery, but for kolache. Opened by a former team at Karlín's Eska, Kus koláče has immediately become the to-go place in town for kolache, a classic Czech pastry that you should not leave town without trying (unlike the ubiquitous chimney cake, which is neither Czech nor any good). Every kolache gets a healthy dose of brown butter and rum from the squirt bottle, and there are several versions, but blueberry always takes the cake in our view. No seats, so don't plan a romantic stop here. Just take one or two pieces and eat them in a nearby park. Delicious!
