Detailed description: Major problems in southern Ethiopia include unsustainable land management, soil erosion and the risk of desertification. Poor management, mainly due to deforestation, stripping of slopes by grazing and subsequent erosion, has resulted in overall environmental degradation and landscape degradation. These challenges were addressed by Mendel University in a pilot project in 2016-2018, which is now being followed up. The current project also aims to provide rural people with secure access to food resources by reducing the negative impacts of climate variability and inappropriate natural resource management in Arba Minch Zuria district. The project involves, among other things, rehabilitating degraded soils, implementing sustainable management in local authorities' strategies in new locations and deepening the impacts of previous interventions in the already affected area. During 2019, the local community has adopted land management principles and adhered to set agreements, so that 80% of the rehabilitated area of 30 hectares continues to be free of soil erosion.
